Biblical Release Time, York School District

Biblical Release Time, York School District

Biblical Release Time is a program of biblical instruction that is provided by churches in the community working together to make a Bible curriculum available to public school students. Parents provide authorization for thier children to be "released" from the public school to attend a Bible class taught off campus for one class period. After the class the students return to school to complete the normal school day.

The Biblical Release Time program has been declared a Constitutionally protected right of parents who wish thier children to take advantage of this opportunity. The positive benefits of Biblically based character education and spiritual connection that the children experience becomes obvious to parents and educators alike. As a result this program is growing in popularity across the nation even among families that do not attend church. For more information on this program go to http://www.clsnet.org/clrfPages/pubs/2002rte.pdf.

The Biblical Release Time program in the Clover School district has been in place for several years and has over 1000 students enrolled. In 2007 a group of parents organized an effort to begin the program in the York School district and soon recieved a unanamous approval by the York School Board to begin the program in the 2008-2009 school year.

At this time the York Biblical Release Time project is seeking further support from churches and business leaders in the York School District.
